Ecological research and environmental monitoring
Research laboratory EDEM
The first academic supervisor was the Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor B. I. Mokin. And the first supervisor was V. B. Mokin, who after defending his doctoral thesis in 2006 became its scientific director.
In NDL EDEM, more than 60 have already been performed research works with state registration, of which more than 50 - state-run GDR to the order of organizations, including there was a direct contract with the United Nations (UNEP). NDL scientists were involved as experts in more than 10 international projects financed by the UN (UNEP, UNDP), the EU (including under the Horizon 2020 program), the OSCE, the Global Environmental Fund (USA), UNESCO, the Eastern European Fund, the governments of Sweden (AIDS), the Netherlands, etc. Mostly, it is the creation of analytical geo-information systems and decision-making support systems, including web systems, development of ecological atlases, cadastral systems, databases, hydrographic and water management zoning of Ukraine and neighboring countries, forecasting of the water management balance, including taking into account climate change until 2050.
Developments NDL EDEM is implemented in Ukraine and abroad in EU countries. In Ukraine, developments have been implemented in all regions of Ukraine (in each region – several different developments, including in authorities, local self-government bodies, enterprises, higher education institutions, NGOs).
Active are supported international contacts. There is active cooperation with a number of foreign scientific institutions and organizations, as well as in Ukraine - with many state organizations, self-government bodies, scientific institutions, enterprises, etc. In particular, cooperation in the field of data processing of aerobiological monitoring and meteorology is underway with scientists from the USA, Finland, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, etc., as a result of which articles will be published in leading Scopus/WoS in 2022 - publications of the world.
With the use of the experience gained in these projects, the scientists of NDL EDEM have developed a number of projects legislative documents and by-laws, which became the basis of environmental legislation in Ukraine: changes to the Water Code of Ukraine and orders of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (Ministry of Natural Resources) of Ukraine.
Scientific director of the NDL EDEM Mokin V.B. in 2009-2010, he was a freelance adviser to the Minister of Environmental Protection of Ukraine, in 2009-2019, he was an adviser to the heads of the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine, since 2009 he is a member Scientific and Technical Council of the State Water Agency, has been the chairman since 2019 Basin Council of Southern Bug, during 2014-2016, he was a member of the public council under the Ministry of Natural Resources, where he headed the commission on education, science and European integration; has been a member since 2020 Working group on mathematical modeling of problems related to the coronavirus epidemic SARS-CoV-2 in Ukraine, which until February 2022 regularly prepared analytics for the NSDC of Ukraine and other agencies and institutions.
Prepared based on research results thesis to obtain a Doctor of Science and 10 dissertations for obtaining a candidate of sciences in the field of information technologies and modeling in ecology, about 20 articles were published in Scopus/WoS publications, including in publications of the 1st quartile in both Scopus and WoS, around 20 monographs, received more than 50 certificates of copyright registration for computer programs, is utility model patents.
In particular, for the last 5 years The scientists of the laboratory carried out R&D on the order of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine in the amount of UAH 600,000. 10 R&D were performed, including 4 farm contract NDR in the amount of about 350 thousand hryvnias. (one - jointly with the newly created NDL SHIK, scientific director of the GDR - V.B. Mokin). 4 certificates of copyright registration for the work have been received (another 4 have been submitted). 5 monographs were published, including one is in Springer (Scopus). 5 articles were published in Scopus/WoS on environmental and medical topics, including a few are in first quartile publications that already have about 40 citations (about 10 in WoS, about 30 in Scopus). 17 scientific articles were published in professional publications of Ukraine. 2 international projects financed by the EU "Horizon" (subcontracted) and a project financed by the GEF and OSCE (USA) were carried out, where NDL scientists were involved as experts. In 2019-2023, 13 master's theses and 25 bachelor's diploma theses were prepared and successfully defended on the subject of research on natural resources at the SAIT department.
Modern directions of scientific research:
1. Development of atmospheric air monitoring programs of zones and agglomerations of Ukraine.
2. Development of water resource monitoring programs.
3. Development of the water management balance of water management areas and bodies of water.
4. Creation of geo-information cadastres and information-analytical systems of environmental monitoring.
5. Deciphering the data of remote sensing of the Earth.
6. Creation of geo-informational decision support systems.
7. Automatic collection and analysis of text data on the state of the environment, environmental problems and ways to solve them (for river basin management plans).
8. Forecasting of state and public environmental monitoring data.
9. Collection and processing of data on the state of the environment, including using Internet of Things technologies and systems.
10. Aerobiological monitoring and prediction of the spread of allergenic plant pollen and allergenic fungal spores in the air.
11. Study of the influence of the environment on the state of health of the population.
12. Creation of environmental monitoring systems.
Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences supervise the research works of students and post-graduate students who are involved in the National Academy of Sciences, including for payment Leadership is being implemented scientific student circles:
– Applied information technologies, system analysis and artificial intelligence (scientific co-supervisors - Doctor of Science, Prof. V.B. Mokin and Doctor of Science, Prof. Mokin O.B.);
– Technologies for creating and analyzing databases and geoinformation systems (the teacher is Ph.D., associate professor E.M. Kryzhanovsky and Ph.D., associate professor I.V. Varchuk);
