Defense of bachelor's diploma theses by students of specialty 126 (OP "Applied IT") of the SAIT department
At the Department of SAIT FKS of VNTU, in June 2021, the first defense of bachelor's theses from the recently accredited educational program "Applied Information Technologies" of specialty 126 "Information Systems and Technologies" was held on Google Meet. The specialty was launched in 2017, so this release was the first. In accordance with the specifics of the educational program, bachelor's theses combined professional knowledge and skills in creating software products using applied information technologies, including intelligent data analysis technologies, modern web development technologies, mobile device programming, and geoinformation data analysis. Each work contained at least one type of such technologies. Most of the works involved the use or development of intelligent technologies.
All works were devoted to solving applied problems based on real data: image recognition in small datasets using Deep Learning, forecasting the exchange rate of cryptocurrencies, in the medical field (forecasting the number of new patients or hospitalized in Ukraine as a whole or in individual regions in particular), in ecology (NLP technologies for analyzing Ukrainian and English-language text about the state of the environment, automated georeferencing of text data, forecasting water quality in a river), creating an information system for an online store. Two students developed a comprehensive diploma thesis, which was devoted to the development of an information analytical panel (dashboard) of the incidence of coronavirus in Europe.
Some work was performed on behalf of IT companies of the city of Vinnytsia, the Southern Bug Basin Council, the Working Group on Mathematical Modeling of Problems Related to the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus Epidemic in Ukraine, which regularly prepares analytics for the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and other institutions and organizations.
At the defense, the students demonstrated that they have a sufficiently high theoretical background and practical skills in using information technologies in various industries, and are proficient in methods of mathematical analysis, data processing tools, modeling, and methods of scientific and engineering research.
Based on the results of their research, a number of students have published and presented at scientific and technical conferences, including international ones.
The supervisors of the bachelor's theses were full-time employees of the SAIT department. The head of the examination committee was Sergey Oleynik, director of LLC "Analytica", known worldwide for its powerful analytical information systems, primarily using geoinformation technologies.
All works have successfully passed peer review and plagiarism check. The best graduates are now applying for admission to the master's degree program of the SAIT department in the same specialty 126 Information Systems and Technologies, to the accredited educational program "Information Technologies of Data and Image Analysis".
