Project-based learning
The goal is to develop the knowledge and skills of students from special sections of professional disciplines of professional and practical training during the implementation of project tasks and to promote good employment of students after graduation.
Such students are better prepared to work in the IT industry and to implement real IT projects. And for some, such a project grows into their own IT startup.
The main concept
- Students gradually carry out a project on a certain topic, learning various knowledge and mastering skills for its implementation during the study of professional disciplines of professional and practical training and independent work on it. Each one has this discipline, which is led by a teacher of the SAIT department, he publishes special sections for independent work, conducts consultations and suggests how exactly the acquired knowledge and skills can be used to implement the team's project.
- Projects are performed by teams of students from 1 to 5 people. Team members can be students of the following specialties and educational programs:
- F4 – Systems Analysis and Data Science (Bachelor) (Educational Program “Systems Analysis and Artificial Intelligence”) (124 – Systems Analysis, Educational Program “Systems Analysis”)
- F6 – Information Systems and Technologies (Bachelor) (126 – Information Systems and Technologies) (educational program “Applied Information Technologies”)
- F6 – Information Systems and Technologies (Master's Degree) (126 – Information Systems and Technologies) (educational program "Information Technologies of Data and Image Analysis")
Mixed teams of students from different courses are allowed at the same time. Also, it is allowed to participate in the teams of students of secondary schools who undergo training in the preparatory IT department of VNTU at the Faculty of IITA on courses of the SAIT department.
You can participate in several teams at the same time, with the exception of participation in competitions - where everyone is a member of only one team.
Each team chooses a captain.
Trainers (or tutors) are teachers or graduate students of the SAIT department of the same specialties F4 (124) and F6 (126).
- Training can take on the form of competitions, in the case of holding ideatons (for example, "System analysis of IT solutions", which are held annually at the department among 1st-year students within the discipline "Introduction to the profession", etc.), hackathons and other IT competitions with certain rules, including competitions Kaggle, where the prize fund sometimes reaches $1.5 mln.
- IT companies can publish their topics of competition tasks and requirements for IT solutions (including for the purpose of selecting students for further employment), in case of guaranteeing a prize fund for the winning teams and their coaches.
- Students, in agreement with the members of their team and the coach, can use their results in the main educational activity during the performance of individual tasks, coursework and projects, qualification works, including complex
- Team members can periodically publish the results of their work in scientific publications and conference materials, which allows you to gain additional points and apply with them for a scholarship and/or budget places during undergraduate or master's studies.
- The developed material is actively used by students in their coursework and projects from various disciplines, bachelor's and master's theses, which can be complex, that is, one task for the whole team, where everyone is responsible for their separate part.
- In the process of training, team members can participate in training in Start-up school "Sikorsky Challenge" in Vinnytsia at VNTU. Ideally, their work will grow into a real startup. But, if not, then the gained experience of working in a team and preparing and creating a certain IT solution will still be valuable.
Every year since 2016 among students of the 1st year of majors bachelor's degree of the SAIT department is conducted "System analysis of IT solutions". The participation of each team member was evaluated by points in the discipline "Introduction to the profession" for all groups of these educational programs. The best solutions were published in the abstracts of scientific conference reports, which gave their participants the opportunity to score more points and advance in the ranking for the scholarship and increase the rating point for further admission to budget places master's degree and postgraduate studies at VNTU.
Project topics
Students can choose their own subject, but it must be approved by the Techrada. Currently, the Tehrada recommends the following topics of work:
- any of the active competitions Kaggle in the field of system analysis and information technologies of artificial intelligence;
- analysis and prediction of data from the European Aerobiological Network (we have such data and already have many joint articles with scientists from European countries and the USA on this topic);
- creation of an analytical web portal surveying citizens regarding existing environmental problems in water bodies (under the auspices of the Southern Bug Basin Council, which is headed by the head of the SAIT department, prof. Mokin V.B.);
- modeling and forecasting of atmospheric air quality data in Ukraine (according to the station data of the SAIT department or other data from the open data portals of the Vinnytsia City Council, or EcoCity, or SaveEcoBot);
- research in the field of the Internet of Things using the Sigfox station of the SAIT department;
- improvement of the system of optimization of the parameters of a multistage technological process using learning with reinforcement in development project of the SAIT Department with funding from the Horizon EU Program.
Registration for studies is carried out at the SAIT department (room 5408 or 5410 or via Viber group of the circle).
