III Ideathon “System Analysis of IT Solutions”

On December 4, 2018, the Department of System Analysis, Computer Monitoring and Engineering Graphics (SACMIG) of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Automation of VNTU hosted the third Ideathon “System Analysis of IT Solutions” for 1st-year students in specialties 124 – “System Analysis” and 126 – “Information Systems and Technologies” (specialization “Applied IT”). Previous similar competitions for first-year students of the SACMIG department were held, respectively, in 2017 and 2016. 6 teams of no more than 5 people participated, who divided the roles of “IT Manager”, “System Architect”, “System Analyst”, “Programmer” and “Designer” among themselves (some combined them). Each team came up with an interesting IT solution - in the field of Smart City, Smart House, IoT, VR/AR, Internet services, mobile applications, etc.
Students analyzed modern analogues, identified their shortcomings, proposed their own solutions in the field of data processing automation using modern IT and technical means that can complement them. Most teams paid significant attention to the development of a possible interface for software, including mobile, applications, target user groups, etc. Conceptual UML diagrams of use cases were developed. Several teams designed and drew their own logos.
All team members were co-speakers and actively answered questions. Not everything was perfect in some projects, which affected their differentiation, although the works that took 3rd and 4th places scored almost the same number of points in almost similar topics (some proposed solutions such as "Smart Home" using the Internet of Things, and others proposed solutions in the field of Internet of Things for its use in the "Smart Home" task - in the future the teams could join forces) - both of these two teams were awarded 3rd place.
In proportion to the place occupied and their role in the project, all participants received a grade in the discipline "Introduction to the profession" (lecturer - Yascholt A.R.), for both groups 2IST-18b and SA-18b of the SAKMIG department. The chairman of the jury was Prof. Mokin V.B., and the members were Ph.D. in specialty 126, associate professors Andriy Yascholt and Ilona Varchuk, who are the curators of these groups 2IST-18b and SA-18b, as well as a 3rd year postgraduate student in specialty 124 Serhiy Dovgopolyuk.
In the future, participants will be invited to submit theses to a scientific conference of students and teachers, which the FCSA of VNTU will hold in March 2019. And later, they can finalize their projects, taking into account the comments and ideas expressed by the jury members during the discussion of the competition projects, and take part in city, republican and international competitions (ideathons, hackathons, etc.), as well as improve their skills at the Sikorsky Startup School at the FCSA of VNTU.
Teams that took the first 3 places:
1st place – Smart Table Team
Kryna O. (IT manager), Ladub O., Sidak I., Dolenko B. – students of specialty 126 (educational program "Applied IT")
2nd place – Team “FastShop”
