Students of VNTU successfully defended their bachelor theses in specialty 124 "System Analysis"

June 21, 2024 @ 12:00

A few weeks ago, at the department of system analysis and information technologies of FIITA VNTU, the bachelor's defenses from the educational program "System analysis" specialty 124 "System analysis" were completed. The topics of the works were broad: applied system analysis in the field of medicine, finance, education, optimization of energy saving, renewable energy, water resources management, forestry, etc. using modern web technologies, data analysis technologies, geoinformation technologies and spatial data analysis, database management systems data, Internet of Things, Data Science, and data mining technologies using machine learning in Python.

Artem Burlachenko in his bachelor's thesis (BDR) described the neural network models of grain elevator nodes, which he developed together with the teacher of the SAIT Department Mykhailo Dratovanym during 2022-2023 during his work as an executor of the National Research Council No. 2860 of the National Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science of the SAIT VNTU Department "Development of information technologies to optimize grain elevator operation using neural network models and reinforcement learning methods" (scientific supervisor - Vitaly Mokin) commissioned by the INNOVINNPROM company with funding from the EU Horizon program (see more on the department's website https://sait.vntu.edu.ua/uk/nauka/prohrama-yes-horyzont/). The models were built according to the data of the SAKURA IoT system of this company.

Oleksandr Lytvynyuk, by order of the information technology department of the Vinnytsia City Council (Director - Volodymyr Romanenko), using the City Council's licensed Power BI, developed and submitted for implementation an Interactive system for the analysis and visualization of medical statistics data on the morbidity of the Vinnytsia population. A similar dashboard, but with regard to other indicators, was developed by Artem Burlachenko during his pre-graduate internship at the city council - he also included it in his work - as a development of the GDR for grain elevators, that is, how it would be possible to make a dashboard to visualize the results of that GDR.

Vadim Karavaev began his work back in 2023 at the request of the Southern Bug Basin Council, which was headed by the head of the SAIT department Vitaliy Mokin from 2018 to January 2024. Unfortunately, in previous years, no organization or group of experts in Ukraine determined the boundaries of the catchment areas of the water bodies of this basin, due to the lack of funding for these works. This task was solved by Vadym Karavaev in his BDR (leader - Associate Professor Yevgeny Kryzhanovskyi) for Khmelnytskyi and Vinnytsia regions using open spatial data, ArcGIS (the SAIT VNTU department has licensed access to it) and QGIS. In addition, he carried out a spatial analysis and found key geographic objects on the territory of these bodies of water, which will be further used by graduate students and students of the department in their scientific research in the field of large language models and artificial intelligence. Part of these results was published by the student as a co-author in an article in the scientific journal "Visnyk VPI" (Issue 3 in 2023). More recent results - in 2024 in the collection of works of the international scientific conference.

Other students created an IoT system for evaluating the effectiveness of photovoltaic modules (complex BDR under the leadership of Associate Professor Dmytro Protsenko), a recommendation system for musical works, and a number of Python notebook programs for predicting various types of data.

All students defended successfully, in particular 4 students received the maximum 100 points. Serhiy Oliynyk, director of "Analytika" LLC, was the head of the examination commission. All works were supervised by full-time teachers of the SAIT department. Many students tested their results at scientific conferences and published them in collections of theses of reports, and one - in an article in the journal "Visnyk VPI".

The majority of students will try to continue their studies at our department - at the master's educational program "Information technologies of data and image analysis" accredited this year, specialty 126 "Information systems and technologies".
