V Ideathon “System Analysis of IT Solutions” - 12/9/2021 Traditionally, in early December 2021, the Department of System Analysis and Information Technologies (SAIT) (http://mmss.vntu.edu.ua/index.php/ua/) of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Automation of VNTU hosted the Ideathon “System Analysis of IT Solutions” for 1st-year students in specialties 124 – “System Analysis” and 126 – “Information Systems and Technologies” (educational program “Applied IT”). Previous similar competitions for first-year students of the SAIT department were held, respectively, in 2016-2020.
12 teams of up to 5 people participated, who divided the roles of “IT Manager”, “System Architect”, “System Analyst”, “Programmer” and “Designer” (some combined them). Each team came up with an interesting IT solution in various areas: tourism, ecotourism, solving some problems in student life, game-based ways of learning programming, improving the environment of city residents, cooking, developing social media technologies, using cryptocurrencies, optimizing farm or agricultural management, etc.
Students analyzed modern analogues, identified their shortcomings, proposed their own solutions in the field of data processing automation using modern IT and technical means that can complement them. Most teams paid significant attention to the development of a possible interface for software, including mobile, applications, target user groups, etc. Conceptual UML diagrams of use cases were developed. Several teams designed and drew their own logos and proposed their vision of interfaces for future products.
All team members were co-speakers and actively answered questions. Not everything was perfect in some projects, which affected their differentiation, although the works that took 3rd and 4th place scored almost the same number of points.
In proportion to the place occupied and their role in the project, all participants received a grade in the discipline "Introduction to the profession" (lecturer - Assoc. Prof. Andrey Yascholt), for both groups 2IST-20b and SA-20b of the SAIT department. The chairman of the jury was me (professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, head of the SAIT department of VNTU Mokin V.B. - the ideologist of this competition), and the members were the Team Leader of the IT enterprise of the Scientific and Technological Enterprise "Common Cause", PhD Volodymyr Storchak from specialty 126, Associate Professor PhD Andrey Yascholt (the main organizer of the competition this year), teacher Misha Dratovany and postgraduate students of the SAIT department from specialty 126 Gorash M.A. and from specialty 124 Olga Voitsekhovskaya.
Teams that took the first 3 places:
1st place – this year two teams took the title: “Firecatch” and “Challenger” – students of specialty 124 (educational program “Systems Analysis”)
2nd place – Team “XpPeople” – students of specialty 126 (Applied IT)
3rd place – Team “CryptoUnion” – students of specialty 126 (Applied IT)
Also, students were invited to make banners outlining their solution, which will later be placed in the specialized office for modern information technologies (room 7212) of the SAIT department, where these Ideathons were traditionally held in the pre-quarantine period and where the finals of the annual All-Ukrainian ACM Programming Olympiad began 9 times in a row in the past.
In the future, participants will be invited to submit theses to a scientific conference of students and teachers, which the FCSA of VNTU will hold in March 2022. And later, they can refine their projects, taking into account the comments and ideas expressed by the jury members during the discussion of the competition projects, as well as taking into account the achievements in many student scientific circles of the SAIT department, and take part in city, republican and international competitions (ideathons, hackathons, etc.), as well as improve their skills at the Sikorsky Startup School at the FCSA of VNTU.
